El 50% del presupuesto está financiado por la Unión Europea a través del Mecanismo Conectar Europa
Huelva, 25 de marzo de 2026.- El Puerto de Huelva participa en el proyecto europeo Nelson junto con otros socios para desarrollar una infraestructura física y digital de una vía navegable mediante la puesta en marcha de nuevos e innovadores servicios marítimos y con practicaje remoto. El Proyecto Nelson (Desarrollo de la Eficiencia y la Seguridad de la Navegación mediante Soluciones Digitales para las Vías Navegables del Futuro) dispone de un presupuesto de 14,9 millones de euros, de los cuales el 50% (7,8 millones de euros), está financiado por la Unión Europea a través del Mecanismo Conectar Europa. El plazo del proyecto, que comenzó en septiembre del año pasado, finalizará el 31 de agosto de 2028.
El desarrollo de este proyecto está dividido en seis paquetes de actuaciones como gestión del proyecto, desarrollo de infraestructura, desarrollo del practicaje remoto, servicios marítimos digitales de Finlandia y Suecia, pruebas y validación y servicios marítimos digitales en España.
La colaboración del Puerto de Huelva se centra en las acciones orientadas a la gestión del proyecto, así como las pruebas y validación.
El objetivo de esta iniciativa en la que participan las Autoridades Portuarias de Huelva y Las Palmas, así como otros socios finlandeses, suecos y españoles, consiste en utilizar datos, nuevas tecnologías y soluciones automatizadas para mejorar la seguridad, la eficiencia y la fiabilidad marítimas. Además de contribuir a la reducción del impacto climático y otros efectos ambientales.
En cuanto al practicaje remoto, este se utiliza para probar y validar las soluciones desarrolladas en el proyecto. No obstante, los servicios se diseñarán para ser utilizados por todos los buques marítimos comerciales.
En relación a los coordinadores y socios del proyecto, el coordinador es Fintraffic Vessel Traffic Services Ltd de Finlandia y cuenta con la participación de Swedish Maritime Administration (Suecia), Finnish Meteorological Institute (Finlandia), Finnpilot Pilotage Ltd (Finlandia), Hiades Business Patterns, S.L. ( España), Aalto University (Finlandia), Advian Software Oy (Finlandia), Brighthouse Intelligence Oy (Finlandia) y las Autoridades Portuarias de Las Palmas y de Huelva.

The Port of Huelva is taking part in the Nelson Project
50% of the budget is funded by the European Union through the Connecting Europe Facility
Huelva, 25 March 2026.—The Port of Huelva is participating in the European Nelson Project alongside other partners to develop the physical and digital infrastructure of a waterway through the implementation of new and innovative maritime services and remote pilotage. The Nelson Project (Developing Navigation Efficiency and Safety through Digital Solutions for the Waterways of the Future) has a budget of €14.9 million, of which 50% (€7.8 million) is funded by the European Union through the Connecting Europe Facility. The project, which began in September last year, will run until 31 August 2028.
Furthermore, the project is divided into six work packages: project management, infrastructure development, remote pilotage development, digital maritime services in Finland and Sweden, testing and validation, and digital maritime services in Spain.
The Port of Huelva’s contribution focuses on activities related to project management, as well as testing and validation.
The aim of this initiative, involving the Port Authorities of Huelva and Las Palmas, as well as other Finnish, Swedish and Spanish partners, is to use data, new technologies and automated solutions to improve maritime safety, efficiency and reliability. Moreover, this project aims to help reduce climate impact and other environmental effects.
As for remote pilotage, this is being used to test and validate the solutions developed within the project. Nevertheless, the services will be designed for use by all commercial maritime vessels.
